My beliefs

I believe in technology in education as an essential tool for modern day learning. I believe society will reward and support adults who are current in modern day technology. I believe education will need to be revamped with more technology to keep up with the world. I also believe that as technology increases that some will get left behind who don't integrate and teach technology to their students. I believe everyone is capable of learning technology.

I believe in NET Standard 6. A. which speaks of ethical use of technology. I believe the teacher needs to teach the student about the moral ethical usage of technology, specifically the internet. If students are not aware of the consequences for misusing technology than who will. Often parents are not being ethical with their uses on the computer. A teacher should model good ethics and behaviors to the students. By building ethics at a young age, America will build into a stronger society.

Lastly I believe that technology isn't God. Therefore it can't be treated like the all powerful and all knowing being. I feel that it must be integrated correctly with the knowledge of the teacher. If society takes technology to the extreme without proper back up, technology could run a muck for society. I appreciate American education and here is my biggest belief, GET RID OF TEXT BOOKS and replace them with interactive holodecks. wouldn't it be better to learn about dinosaurs close up! :)

Lessons Learned

After watching the technology videos I feel that I can relate to some of the high school students. We both feel that our parents are outdated on technology and therefore so behind on today's hip new lifestyle. I would like to teach in a technology school. I was saddened by the lack of technology in my field class. How can a teacher follow the NET standards if technology is sparse. Standards such as 5. C. can't be upheld to produce productivity without proper technology.

I believe that technology is growing exponentially and will continue to grow exponentially. On teacher tube the video, "Did you know," is filled with information on exponential growth of technology. Hundreds of thousands of hours are spent on technology for children under the age of 21. I believe that technology such as Nintendo should make games that educate children as well as have fun.

I agree with NET Standard 3. B. which is the use of technology for diverse learners. I love how in my field a computer game was created to help children with their multiples. The game was modern and looked like a lot a space game. I believe technology should be used every other day if not daily. I feel that it shouldn't be used for visual purposes but for interaction. Older children should have the use of computers for their daily learning.

Strengths and Weaknesses

I feel like my technology muscles are as strong as Hercules. I feel well equipped, prepared, and knowledgeable to use technology in education. Teacher NETS standard A states, "demonstrate introductory knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology." I feel I have surpassed introductory knowledge and can create my own technology to teach my students. My weaknesses lie in the little details of computer malfunctions. Often I have come across technical glitches in technology that I cannot fix immediately, but given time I could.

Although I feel I have great strength in technology I know I can approve on my awareness of what support is given for teachers. UEN is providing a mini course on using PBS in education. PBS is awesome for children and I would love to see the possibilities. This PBS website is called teacher line. Teacher line is a resource I can use to involve PBS into my curriculum. I love PBS because it is created to support the growth of children.

I also realize to make my strengths stronger and weaknesses less weak I can take classes on materials I already know. I know that I can always learn something new from anyone. I really like the mini class "Digital camera in the classroom" Its a class on how to use the digital camera to teach and have fun. I know this class will also be a tool for my development. Technology is filled with infinite possibilities and the students love technology.

We have a very good relationship with our cooperating teacher. Our teacher recently graduated from UVU and was in her third year of teaching. Her name was Kayla Walker and she was friendly. We felt like we were working with a member of our cohort when we worked with Kayla. What we really enjoyed was how she gave feedback in every lesson. Her feedback was based off of her experiences and what she would have wanted to know as a student teacher. We had many opportunities to discuss teaching, politics, philosophy, education and our personal life experiences. We made a friend with Kayla, as she is also our professional colleague.

C.
Mrs. Walker thought our video was very creative and entertaining. She praised us for using technology and told us how wonderful technology is to the students. Mrs. Walker encouraged us to continue to create videos and to bring in technology however we could in our lessons during field. I appreciated how she said our technology fit right into her lessons of Ancient Civilizations. The only feedback she gave us of the video was to stop the video if the students were ever talking.

D.
Mrs. Walker also loved the lesson that was done with the video. The video was perfect to introduce the Rosetta Stone lesson. She complimented the lesson by stating that it was well prepared and very organized. I appreciated how she loved how the lesson was broken into a jigsaw so all students had participation. My teacher also liked the evaluation after the lesson so the students could have a formal assessment. The lesson was also praised for its variety in development. The lesson had drama, jigsaw methods, group and individual work with extrinsic rewards.

Merissa and I experienced problems with our cooperating teacher the first day we got to school. Our original field teacher became very ill and we were transferred to another classroom. Our new teacher Kayla Walker had just recently graduated from the UVU elementary education program. Our original plan was to spend some time with our teacher who had been in the field for a while, teaching windows media maker. We talked to Kayla about this and decided that she already was advanced enough to not need us to teach her.

F.
We really enjoyed the learning experience because it gave me an opportunity to put myself in the field and experience the classroom. We really appreciated the chance to be a teacher and see how a teacher runs the classroom. I (Archer) knew after field that I had chosen the best career for me and I am very excited to become a teacher soon.

G.
Mrs. Walker absolutely loved our help with the classroom. She complimented us very often on how easy we made her life. Kayla reminded us often that there needs to be more than one teacher in a classroom to give the students personalized attention. I believe our education system would thrive with two teachers teaching full time. I know Mrs. Walker appreciated the large amount of help we gave her.

H.
We gained a lot of personal experience from field. We appreciated the opportunity to see the classroom experience from the teachers perspective and we gained a lot of knowledge on classroom management. We came to learn that half of classroom management was simply having a teaching in the classroom. Mrs. Walker gave great feedback on how to be a successful teacher.

I.
The experience was well worth our time. I (Archer) feel that I learned more in the field experience about teaching than I have in the time I have been at school preparing. Real world experience can’t compare to books and teaching. We highly valued this experience as a great preparation tool. I would highly suggest it keeps going through the program as it taught us more than we could describe.

Blog Week of Nov (15 - 22)

I have really been enjoying this field experience. I have been very excited to see what its like to be a teacher. Sixth Grade is really amazing because the students are so bright, intelligent, and the most mature for Elementary. I have an amazing teacher and an even more amazing field coordinator who really made this journey incredible.

I have noticed that students eat up any technology. In fact my teacher even told me that the students will take ANY technology you can give them. I agreed with her. I used technology for my lesson and they loved it. Okay, so the saddest part about the school is that its just not built or technology. Technology is so necessary and needs to be used more often. It was disturbing to see how little technology was used in it.

I hope that my school will have a good use of technology. In fact I would rather teach in a school built with technology than a school that wasn't. I feel that its such an important teaching tool. I want to use technology a least every other day for my classroom. Perhaps I could invest in some type of technology. I wonder how much it would cost me to do so and if it would be protected in the school. I think it wouldn't be to bad of an idea to invest in hope that it will help the students and my teaching.
