Amazing Blog 8 * week 8

Today we didn't have Dr. Waters in class. We worked on our Digital Stories, however. It was a good week to stay busy creating our digital story. My digital story is with my field partner Merissa. It is a story on the Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics and how they form three languages. The Coptic language was important because it helped us translate ancient texts.

This will help me begin to prepare for bigger assignments through the professional teaching program. I am excited about this because teachers are so easily impressed with technology. In the public eye only a professional can create a technology program. Its almost like learning magic to them. When a powerful technological presentation is created it makes me look smart :)

My presentation will consist of an incredible opening. The opening will be photos of the Egyptian landscape. It will be beautiful photographs of the Ancient buildings that make Egypt phenomenal and so mysterious. I want to create this story to get the students interested in how we have learned so much about this ancient culture. I look forward to getting the students fascinated with the mysteries.

Amazing Blog *week 7

Today is a day on copyrighted material. I actually love this lesson because I have learned some really cool things. I was asked to research creative commons and licenses. Creative Commons is a website dedicated to sharing free material that can be distributed to the public.

What I love about this website is that I have an unlimited resource of pictures and music to use without copyright use. I have been told in the past by professionals that so long as I don't gain money or mass spread my material, (personal use) there is no copyright. I have never put any videos on You Tube because of this. I always wondered if everything I needed had to be my own pictures, music, etc. I now have the websites and materials to create a video I can place onto Youtube.

As a teacher I want to be safe on the materials I am using. It seems that most teachers have copyrighted materials being used in their classrooms. I will now be able to help other professionals to get non-copyrighted, or shared materials. I thought it would be fun to make an end of the year video using free photos, music, and sound clips. Its a wonderful world! :)

Amazing Blog 6 * week 6

This week we are learning about Digital story Boards. Story Boards are videos that tell a message, story, biography, history, etc on subjects that teach a lesson. It reminds me a lot of what I use on Sony Vegas Video maker. It begins with digital story boards that end with a AVI or WMV to present to a classroom.

I think that this is a great opportunity to learn a product that can be used in my cohort. We have to constantly present group and solo lessons and technology, its so important to me. The nice thing about digital story boards is that it can be altered to fit teacher standards. If I used a You Tube video it would be difficult to meet all the teacher's criteria. I can create as a student the perfect technological lesson that perfectly relates to the teacher.

As a teacher this is also great to fit the UEN standards. I can customize a story board to teach a lesson, or just to introduce a lesson. I also think its a great way to keep up a class scrapbook. I can upload a monthly, or weekly log to put on the computer. This gives the parents an opportunity to see whats going on in the classroom. I believe that the more technology that is used the better the attention of the students I will get. I will impress the students and teachers as well :)

Vidcast Reflection

Vidcast reflection

The name of my vidcast is called, “How to be a healthy sixth grader.” I chose to do my vidcast on this because I feel that without health, education can become halted. I found the core curriculum at Utah Education website. The core addresses sixth grade health standard one and objectives one through four. It covers the important aspects of inner and outer emotions. It also reflects simple awareness of physical health.

I perceive that this will give the students basic understanding of how to be healthy. It also sets as a goal for my students to achieve. I have chosen to take the word health and break it into a subject from each letter. I used the words to cover specific topics of health at the beginning of the school year and followed it through till the end of the school year.

I used the following INTASC standard, by creating and maintaining a positive classroom environment that promotes student learning. A healthy happy student will promote a positive environment. My vidcast also follows supporting and engaging all students in learning. Students play equal parts in their health and the health of others.

This assignment also followed NETS by using digital technology to create a digital-age learning experience for the children. The playground environment and classical music together envelope a creative learning process. It also followed standard four which promotes citizenship and responsibility. The last focus of the video is on choosing to be happy and how to react in a positive way which promotes healthy citizenship.

I see only one drawback which is that some children find classical music boring and may not want to pay attention. The series will continue in varied disciplines to promote learning and class goals in future vidcasts.
